ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has been placed on bereavement leave after a death in the family, leaving his participation in next week’s all-star Game in jeopardy.
The team said Friday that the grandfather of his wife had died and that Molina has returned to Puerto Rico.

Kurt Busch captures Nationwide race
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Kurt Busch won a wild Nationwide race at Daytona International Speedway on Friday night, holding off three challengers over the final hundred yards in a battered race car.
Busch’s victory was his second this season, each with different teams. He won for his brother, Kyle Busch Motorsports, at Richmond earlier in the year. He took the checkered flag for Phoenix Racing on Friday.
The race had several crashes that left less than half the field on the lead lap for a green-white-checkered finish. Busch started the two-lap sprint pushing Austin Dillon, but made a move to the front with a lap left and then held off Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Michael Annett and Dillon as they neared the finish line.
Stenhouse was second, followed by Annett, Dillon and Joey Logano.
Danica Patrick was involved in one of the wrecks and finished 31st.

General manager Scott Howson announced the signing Friday, five days after Foligno was picked up in a trade with Ottawa for defenceman Marc Methot. Foligno, who was a restricted free agent, will receive $2.5 million in 2012-13, $3 million in 2013-14 and $3.75 in 2014-15.
The 24-year-old Foligno, who had 15 goals and 32 assists a year ago, is expected to add some much needed punch to the Blue Jackets’ offence.
