Hafner activated, but won’t play full time

Designated hitter Travis Hafner was activated from the disabled list after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee May 24. To make room for him on the roster, Shelley Duncan was placed on the paternity list for up to three days. Duncan left the team Wednesday to be with his wife, Elyse, who is expecting twin boys. When Duncan returns, another move will be forthcoming. “This happened to be good timing,’’ manager Manny Acta said of Duncan’s situation. “”It gives us another day or two, and we all know in baseball how things can change.’’ Hafner is not limited in how many games a week he can play, but Acta said he wouldn’t push him hard. “He’s not necessarily going to play every day,’’ the manager said, “but we don’t have all those indicators that would force us to play him only every other day.’’ NOT HIS STYLE – Michael Brantley often has said he is not a home run hitter, and for the most part he has gone out of his way to prove it. Brantley is second on the team with 22 doubles and Acta thinks that’s just fine. “We never envisioned Michael as a power hitter,’’ the manager said after Brantley hit his second homer of the season Wednesday against the Angels. “He’s a line-drive guy, a doubles hitter. And we’re just glad he doesn’t try to overdo things.’’ DOBY HONORED – The Tribe will memorialize the 65th anniversary of Larry Doby breaking the color barrier in the American League with a street celebration and a ceremony inside Progressive Field on Friday. The achievements of the former Cleveland outfielder and hall of fame player are scheduled for a postgame ceremony and will include a video, the unveiling of a Larry Doby street sign and a new United State Postal Service stamp. Larry Doby Jr., his daughters Christina Fearrington and Nicole Frasier, plus former teammate Mudcat Grant will be special guests. FARM FACTS – Matt LaPorta hit his 17th homer of the season in Columbus’ 4-2 loss to Toledo.
